Two potent engines power the 2024 Ford Explorer. From the base model up to the Limited, the Explorer features a standard 300-horsepower 2.3L EcoBoost® inline four-cylinder (I4) engine, while the ST, King Ranch®, and Platinum® models feature a 400-horsepower EcoBoost V6 engine. Looking to tow the family camper on your next vacation? The Explorer has a maximum towing capacity of 5,600 pounds when properly equipped.

Both engines send their power through a ten-speed automatic transmission to either a standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) drivetrain or all four wheels with available intelligent four-wheel drive (4WD).
