That number comes courtesy of the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine we’ll be discussing more in the next section. Payload for the F-150 is just as impressive when you have the truck configured properly. The maximum payload can reach a robust 3,325 pounds.
So what happens if you begin looking at different F-150 engines, such as the efficient 3.5L V6 hybrid? Well, for starters, your truck will see a noticeable boost in efficiency, with the EPA estimating a return of 25 city/26 highway MPG. In terms of towing and payload, the drop-off from the peak capabilities really isn’t that steep. The hybrid version of the F-150 can tow as much as 12,700 pounds while carrying as much as 2,120 pounds of payload!
Picking Your Favorite Ford F-150 Engine
Not only do different Ford F-150 motors alter the towing capability of your truck, but they also deliver unique personalities when driving around town every day. This specification breakdown is a good introduction to each powerplant, yet a test drive is the most revealing form of research.
That top-of-the-line High-Output 3.5L V6 makes 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid V6 is quite similar in output with 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque.
There are three other V6 motors to be aware of:
- 3.3L V6 making 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque
- 2.7L V6 making 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque
- 3.5L V6 making 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque
When you want to go larger than the V6, there’s a V8 you may find appealing. The 5.0L setup generates 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
For the drivetrain, you can select between a 4X2 or 4X4 setup. The transmission for each is a 10-speed automatic and the fuel tank size varies between four options- 23 gallons, 26 gallons, 30.6 gallons, and 36 gallons.
