2022 Explorer
We’ll start with the base version of the Explorer which doesn’t get any fancy names or titles. What this standard trim does get is technology. A reverse sensing system will begin beeping if you’re close to hitting an obstacle or another car. Your SUV can serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot too, thanks to the FordPass Connect™ 4G LTE system.
XLT
Moving up a trim to the Ford Explorer XLT results in greater control of the SUV through the use of different drive modes. The Terrain Management System™ gives you the option to move between:
- Normal
- Deep snow/sand
- Slippery
- Sport
- Tow/haul
- Eco
ST-Line
The ST-Line version of the Explorer comes with all the aggressive looks of the performance ST trim which we’ll discuss later. So the striking ActiveX seat materials with Miko® inserts and red stitching can be found in the interior.
Also in the cabin is a deluxe 12-speaker B&O® sound system.
Timberline
If there’s a spot you want to travel in your Explorer that’s off the beaten path, go for the Timberline trim. This off-roading enthusiast version of the Explorer touts steel skid plates, a limited slip differential, plus 18-inch high gloss black-painted aluminum wheels with laser-etched Timberline logo.
Limited
The 2022 Limited trim is among the most luxurious offerings. SYNC® with voice-activated navigation is standard, as is the soft leather seating surfaces with micro-perforation and accent stitching.
ST
If you want to go with the performance Explorer, Ford has you covered. The Ford Explorer ST stuffs a 3.0L engine under the hood. Turbocharging and direct injection technology means this SUV makes 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.
King Ranch
The styling cues of the King Ranch trim immediately attract certain drivers. The Del Rio leather seats with lasso-perforated inserts and the 10-spoke aluminum wheels are the first additions that jump out from this trim.
Platinum
All the way up top in the Ford Explorer trim list sits the luxurious Platinum featuring:
- Twin-panel moonroof
